School lunches need to be better, but going organic is a bad idea. Organic food is not healthier, safer or more nutritious. It's the same (or in some cases more dangerous -- especially for children) it's just a lot more expensive.

Buying fresh, local food is a good idea but only if it is not cost prohibitive. Most schools cannot afford to give kids (especially needy kids) the healthy foods they need. Buying designer, politically correct food isn't the answer.

Wow, I had no idea that there were people trying to reform school lunch. I remember school lunch as being this weird, smelly food with lots of cheese, and it scared me.

I think she's right about kids learning to eat other food, and I'm surprised that the schools want student feedback. Part of education is also in health/nutrition, and schools and parents need to tell kids..."you will eat this because it's good for you." If they get hungry enough, eventually they'll eat =)

Great article! Thinking about how crappy school lunch is in the USA just blows my mind. I wish I had been French... maybe.
